Science and Math Building Groundbreaking
Meredith College Groundbreaking Ceremony for $20 Million Science and Mathematics Building Held April 9, 2001

Meredith College broke ground on an 80,000 sq. ft. science and mathematics building during a ceremony held April 9, 2001, on the building’s future site in front of the Mae Grimmer Alumnae House.

"With this building, Meredith is starting the 21st century with a renewed ability to educate women to excel in math and science," said Virginia Knight, chair of Meredith’s mathematics and computer science department and shepherd for the new building.

<-- Meredith College President Maureen Hartford, Lou Jurkowski, Principal of BJLAS Architecture, LLC, and Patricia Rodgers, President of Rodgers Builders. BJLAS is the building architect and Rodgers Builders is the general contractor.

Leslie Gilliland, ’01, former SGA president, told the crowd of Meredith students, faculty, staff, trustees and friends that the facility had "already begun to hold a special place in students’ hearts." -->

 

<--Dr. Jeff Hockaday, former chair of the Meredith College Board of Trustees, noted that the cutting-edge facility promises to "forever change the appearance of Meredith College.
