Science and Math Building Facts
CourtyardIn February of 2001, the Meredith Board of Trustees approved the design of the 80,000 square foot facility. Ground was broken on April 9, 2001, with completion scheduled for January of 2003. The building was completed on schedule in January 2003.

BJLAS Architecture, LLC, of Raleigh, N.C. and Atlanta, Ga., are the project architects for the Science and Mathematics Building. Rodgers Builders, of Charlotte, N.C., is the building contractor.

Both BJLAS Architecture, LLC, and Rodgers Builders are women-owned firms.

• Recommended in Meredith’s strategic plan, the facility is a key element of the College’s initiative to prepare women for science-, math-, and computer-related careers.

The facility design encourages interaction and the exchange of ideas, supporting an interdisciplinary, collaborative and interactive approach to undergraduate science/mathematics education and research.

• The new building stands on the south side of the Meredith campus, facing the Shearon Harris building, and will necessitate the relocation of the Mae Grimmer House this summer.

Students with laptops may access the Internet from the courtyard and other areas of the new building via wireless technology.

• The building opened for classes on Jan. 8, 2003, the beginning of the spring 2003 semester. A grand opening celebration is planned for March 28, 2003.
