Kenya program - http://meredith.edu/kenya/
Costa Rica Program
The Department of Biology sponsors a study abroad experience in Costa Rica each year. All students are also enrolled in one credit of Spanish that will be taught at one of our field sites (Ecolodge San Luis) by a Costa Rican instructor at either the beginner or intermediate level. Courses are taught by Assistant Professor of Biology Erin Lindquist and husband, Marcelo Ardón Sayaô, a native of Costa Rica and a research associate in biology at Duke University.
The students will receive CORE 200 credit upon successful completion of the course and an intercultural journal. The biology courses also are registered as biology & society courses. A new service learning thread into the Spanish course by designing two activities where the students will work with a local farming community to construct a bridge and bake/cook items to be sold at a local community dance to benefit the K-6 public school in the community. The students conduct research projects that will test a unique question/hypothesis posed by the students. The students present their research findings in a written report, as well as an oral research symposium at the end of the course.
