BIOLOGY 323 & 343
TEXTBOOK: Anatomy & Physiology, The Unity of Form and Function. By Saladin.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: A comprehensive study of the principal processes involved in vertebrate cells, tissues, and organ systems, including circulation, respiration, excretion, acid-base and fluid balances, digestion, reproduction, and muscle-nerve coordination and integration. Anatomy is studied as necessary to understand the functions of the different systems.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: The student will:
- Demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of the functional morphology of vertebrate systems.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the basis of major adaptive changes in physiology through vertebrate evolution.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of vertebrate physiology laboratory skills and the reporting of laboratory results.
- Submit a paper describing pathophysiology of a particular disease. Areas to address within the paper should include: Description, Etiology, Epidemiology, Pathophysiology, Clinical Manifestations, Diagnosis, Prognosis, Treatment, anything on the horizon - new ideas.
