COURSE DESCRIPTION: Laboratory exercises designed to illustrate the principles considered in BIO-101. Topics include cellular structure, respiration and photosynthesis, DNA structure and function, cellular and organismal reproduction, and genetics.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: Students will:

• Produce graphs of scientific data
• Identify tests for organic molecules in food
• Recognize and diagram cells in various stages of mitosis and meiosis
• Analyze basic problems in Mendelian genetics
• Understand concepts of DNA fingerprinting
• Transcribe and translate DNA sequences
• Understand basic enzyme function
• Understand relationship of pigments, light, and starch in the process of photosynthesis
• Understand relationship of Oxygen to respiration and metabolic rate
