TEXTBOOK: Lab Manual for Biology 141
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Laboratory exercises designed to illustrate the principles considered in BIO-101. Topics include cellular structure, respiration and photosynthesis, DNA structure and function, cellular and organismal reproduction, and genetics.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: Students will:
- Produce graphs of scientific data
- Identify tests for organic molecules in food
- Recognize and diagram cells in various stages of mitosis and meiosis
- Analyze basic problems in Mendelian genetics
- Understand concepts of DNA fingerprinting
- Transcribe and translate DNA sequences
- Understand basic enzyme function
- Understand relationship of pigments, light, and starch in the process of photosynthesis
- Understand relationship of Oxygen to respiration and metabolic rate
