Sayabouth and White Named to NCCSIA Second Team

Wingate, N.C. – Sixteen student-athletes, representing 11 institutions, make up the second annual North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State volleyball teams
Laura Sayabouth and Morgan White were Second Team All-State selections from Meredith College. A sophomore, White led the team with 350 kills during the season. A junior, Sayabouth led the team with 8.32 assists per game.
The squads consist of student-athletes from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA colleges
and universities throughout the state. North Carolina sports information professionals submitted nominees and
NCCSIA members selected the teams. The all-state units consists of one setter, two outside hitters, two middle
hitters/blockers, one right-side/opposite hitter and one libero/defensive specialist. The second team includes two
setters and three outside hitters due to ties in the voting.
2007 Volleyball Season Recap
The Meredith College volleyball team finished the season strong winning three out of their last five games. The Avenging Angels compiled eight total wins and five conference wins including two over cross town rival Peace College.
Senior Lindsey McEvoy provided the defense with 108 total blocks while also adding 232 kills. Morgan White led the way in kills with 350 for the season. Laura Sayabouth was the assist leader with 948 while also leading with 58 service aces.
Meredith College entered the USA South volleyball tournament as the eight seed. Meredith was sent to Christopher Newport to take on Peace College, in the first round. Meredith defeated Peace 30-23, 30-20, 30-25. Meredith moved on to play Christopher Newport in the USA South tournament quarterfinals. The Avenging Angels lost the match 3-0, finishing their run in the tournament.
“I am very proud of the team's continued effort and focus throughout the season. We have a great base to build off for future years and we are looking forward to this spring as a great growth and learning time. We are also excited about the addition of some strong freshmen in 2008,” said Head Coach Fiona Barkley.
Meredith’s Morgan White was named to honorable mention on the USA South athletic conference team. Laura Sayabouth was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.

Meredith Picks Up Win in USA South Conference Volleyball Tournament, Then Drop in Semifinals
Newport News, Va. - Meredith College defeated Peace College in the first round of the USA South volleyball tournament. Meredith defeated Peace 30-23, 30-20, 30-25. The Avenging Angels were led by Morgan White with 21 kills.
Meredith moved on to play Christopher Newport in the quarterfinals on the USA South tournament. The Avenging Angels lost the match 3-0, finishing their run in the tournament.

Meredith Picks Up Win and USA South Conference Volleyball Tournament Seeding Announced
Raleigh, N.C. – The Avenging Angels split in their two conference games on Saturday. Meredith defeated Shenandoah 3-1 and has swept the Hornets for the season. Meredith fell to Greensboro 3-1 later in the day.
The Avenging Angels next travel to Christopher Newport on Tuesday at 5pm to take on Peace College in the first round of the USA South Tournament.

Meredith Avenges Loss, Sweep Games from Peace
Raleigh, N.C. - The Avenging Angels went across town and swept Peace College winning 3-0. The first game was a battle with Meredith finishing ahead 34-32. The second game went on to also go to extra points with the Avenging Angels finishing on top 31-29. The third game almost went the distance as well with Meredith finishing Peace off at 30-27.
The Avenging Angels were led by Sara Elliott with 14 kills and Morgan White with 13 kills.
Meredith College evened the series with Peace on the year, after losing 3-2 on September 26. Meredith picked up their third conference win on the season.
Meredith next travels to Shenandoah to take on the host Hornets and Greensboro College to finish up the regular season on Saturday.
Meredith Falls in Two Conference Games at Ferrum
Ferrum, Va. - The Avenging Angels fell in their two conference games on Saturday. In their first match of the weekend, they took on nationally ranked Christopher Newport losing 3-0. Mallory Booker led the way for Meredith with 8 kills and 6 digs.
In their second match on Saturday they dropped 3-0 after almost taking the first game. Senior Lindsey McEvoy provided 8 kills and 6 digs for the Avenging Angels.
Meredith next travels across town to take on Peace at 7pm on Tuesday. The last time these two teams met, Meredith lost in a five game thriller.
Meredith Falls Short to Methodist
Raleigh, N.C. – The Meredith volleyball team jumped on the Monarchs early to win the first game, but fell 3-1 to Methodist.
Morgan White led the way for the Avenging Angels as she had 15 kills and 4 service aces.
Senior Lindsey McEvoy was honored before the match. She is currently 3rd in the USA South in blocks per game, and 5th in the conference in hitting percentage. She also leads the team with 86 total blocks, second in kills with 164 and second in service aces with 33.
Meredith next heads to Ferrum, Va. on Saturday to take on Ferrum and Christopher Newport in USA South conference matches.
Avenging Angels Conquer Vixens
Virginia Beach, Va. – The Avenging Angels picked up a win against Sweet Briar College defeating them 3-0.
Meredith was led by Freshman Malloy Booker who had 10 kills, 7 digs and one block assist. Laura Sayabouth added four kills to go along with her team high 35 assists.
In the second match of the day, Meredith fell to Va. Wesleyan 3-0. Morgan White led Meredith with 16 kills, 10 digs and 1 block.
The Avenging Angels next host N.C. Wesleyan on Tuesday and Roanoke College on Wednesday. Both games are at 7:00 pm in Weatherspoon Gymnasium.
Meredith Drops Two Conference Games
Staunton, Va. - The Avenging Angels volleyball team dropped two games over the weekend losing to Mary Baldwin 3-0 and Averett 3-0. On Wednesday, Meredith lost a hard fought match to Peace 3-2, (30-27, 18-30, 30-23, 22- 30, 12-15).
Meredith next hosts Division II Chowan on Tuesday at 6pm in Weatherspoon Gymnasium. The Avenging Angels last defeated Chowan 3-1 this season on September 16 in Murfreesboro, N.C.
Meredith Volleyball Picks Up First and Second Conference Wins
Raleigh, NC – The Meredith College Avenging Angels Volleyball team picked up its first-ever USA South athletic conference win on Saturday by defeating Shenandoah in five games. Meredith was led by Lindsay McEvoy with 12 kills, 2 blocks and 4 block assists. Morgan White had 14 kills and Mallory Booker added 10 kills, 12 digs and 2 block assists. Sara Elliott had 17 digs and 3 block assists. Meredith finished the day on Saturday with a 3-0 loss to Greensboro College.
On Sunday, the Avenging Angels picked up their second conference win of the season by defeating Mary Baldwin 3-2. Lindsay McEvoy continued to pick up the team by providing 13 kills, one ace, one solo block and four block assists. Meredith finished the weekend with a 3-0 loss against Averett University.
The Avenging Angels next host cross-town rival Peace College on Wednesday at 7:00 pm in Weatherspoon Gymnasium.
Meredith Tops Division II Chowan
Raleigh, N.C. – The Meredith College volleyball team traveled to Newport News, Va. over the weekend to take on conference foes Christopher Newport and Ferrum. The Avenging Angels dropped both matches 3-0. On Sunday, Meredith traveled to Division II Chowan, defeating them by a score of 3-1. The Avenging Angels were led by Morgan White who had 19 kills.
Meredith next travels to take on USA South opponent Methodist University on Wednesday at 7 pm.
Week in Review - 9/12/2007
Raleigh, N.C. – The Avenging Angels volleyball team traveled to the Greensboro Invitational the weekend of Sept. 7-8. Meredith College again faced stiff competition and dropped their four matches over the weekend. Sophomore Morgan White was named to the Greensboro Invitational All-Tournament team with a total of 38 kills, 25 digs, and 4 service aces. Freshman Mallory Booker picked up 16 kills, 31 digs, 1 service ace while Junior Kayla Carter had 27 digs.
On Tuesday, the first official USA South conference match was played by the Meredith volleyball team. The Avenging Angels dropped a very close match losing games 1 and 2 (30-25, 30-24), winning game 3 (28-30), then dropping game 4 (30-26). Meredith was led by Laura Sayabouth with 41 assists and Morgan White with 15 kills.
The Avenging Angels next head to Newport News, Va. on Saturday for their first conference tri-match facing Christopher Newport and Ferrum. They then head to a non-conference match against Division II Chowan on Sunday.
Week in Review - 9/6/2007
The volleyball team returns from a road trip at the Emory and Henry Invitation in Emory, Va. They finished strong beating Randolph College 3-0 after dropping their first three matches against strong competition.
Junior Setter Laura Sayabouth was named to the Emory & Henry Invitational All-Tournament team. Sayabouth had 41 assists against Bluefield State and 29 against Randolph. Morgan White also led the Avenging Angels in kills with 21 against Randolph.
The Avenging Angels next travel to the Greensboro College Invitational on September 8-9. They take on Piedmont and Lynchburg on Friday and Greensboro and Guilford on Saturday.
USA South Preseason Poll Released
Raleigh, N.C. - The volleyball team was selected to finish seventh in the 10 member league. This would rank Meredith as the number one team out of the all women colleges in the conference. The Avenging Angels open up at Emory and Henry playing Va. Wesleyan on August 31.

Fiona Barkley Hired as Head Volleyball Coach
Raleigh, N.C. - Fiona Barkley was named the head volleyball coach of Meredith College taking over for retired coach Kathy Mayberry.
Barkley comes to Meredith from NC State University where she served as assistant coach for the 2004 and 2005 seasons. During this time she specifically trained defensive systems and serving strategy while assisting with all aspects of this ACC team. Barkley also managed team travel, oversaw support staff, organized special events, and coordinated video scouting systems. While at NC State, Barkley was able to increase the support from volleyball alumni through special events as well as direct camps and clinics for more than 300 girls.
