Head Coach: Fiona Barkley
Fiona
MacPherson Barkley enters her first year as head coach of the Meredith College
Volleyball team. Barkley takes over a young team that went 12-15 during
the 2006 season.
Barkley comes to Meredith from NC State University where she served as assistant coach for the 2004 and 2005 seasons. During this time she specifically trained defensive systems and serving strategy while assisting with all aspects of this ACC team. Barkley also managed team travel, oversaw support staff, organized special events, and coordinated video scouting systems. While at NC State, Barkley was able to increase the support from volleyball alumni through special events as well as direct camps and clinics for more than 300 girls.
Prior to NC State, Barkley worked as an assistant coach at Division II Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla. While at Lynn, she assisted in all aspects of planning and running the program. In their 2003 season, Lynn attained their season best wins record in the Sunshine State Conference.
Barkley’s college coaching career started at her alma mater, Elon University, where from 2001-2003 she served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. During her time at Elon she signed recruits who went on to earn MVP, Coach’s Award, All-Tournament, and All-Academic honors. She finished up her time at Elon as interim head coach.
From 1998-2001, Barkley served as a club volleyball coach for Cobb-Atlanta Volleyball Club and Piedmont Volleyball Club. Barkley is IMPACT certified and continues to work at volleyball summer camps such as NC State, Duke, Elon, Furman and Emory. Barkley also enjoys playing volleyball in local leagues.
Barkley’s playing career at Elon University included being a four-year letter winner, team captain and MVP. As an outside hitter, she was also named to Elon’s 1,000 Digs and 1,000 Kills Club. Barkley earned her Bachelor of Science in leisure/sports management from Elon in 1999.
In addition to her duties with the volleyball team, Barkley is also the marketing manager for StarQuest International a dance competition company in Apex, N.C.
