Lauren Powers Named to National Independent Team

Kansas City, Mo. - Meredith College's Lauren Powers has been named to the second team of the Association of Division III Independents 2006 All-Independent Volleyball team. Powers led the team with 412 kills on the year. She also led the team in blocking as well with 75 BS and 55 BA for a total of 130 blocks on the season. She was #20 in the nation for blocks per game through the listed standings on 10/8/06 with 1.5/game. In her last home game as a Senior, she had her season high of 30 kills against NC Wesleyan. She finished her career on the road with 25 kills, 5 blocks against Guilford and 20 kills, 6 blocks against Randolph Macon Women's College.



Volleyball Finishes Up Season Strong

Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith College volleyball team won their last two games of the season against Guilford College and Randolph Macon Woman's College.

Meredith (12-15) defeated Guilford 27-30, 30-22, 30-21, and 30-19 in their first match of the day. The Angels combined for 15 total blocks with Anna Taylor and Lauren Powers both having 5 solos each.

The Angels later faced Randolph Macon Woman's College in the afternoon and defeated them in 5 games to pick up their second win of the day. The scores were 30-26, 25-30, 30-21, 27-30, and 15-11. Lauren Powers led the way in her finale as a Senior. She finished the game with 20 kills, 6 blocks, and 2 service aces. Powers ended up with 412 kills and 130 blocks on the season.


Volleyball Senior Night at Last Home Game

Raleigh, N.C. – The Meredith College volleyball team completes their home schedule on Wednesday October 25th against NC Wesleyan at 6:30pm. Seniors Lauren Powers and Sarah-Ann Howell will be honored at the pre-game ceremony. Meredith (10-14) is coming off a 1-3 loss against Lynchburg College on Saturday.

The team finishes its schedule this Saturday on the road against Guilford and Randolph Macon Woman’s College.

 


Meredith takes Peace in four games

Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith College Angels (10-13) defeated cross-town rival Peace College (12-13) in 4 games.  They won the hard fought match 30-19, 28-30, 30-27, 30-13. Lindsey McEvoy led the defense with 5 blocks and one block assist.  Lauren Powers had 18 kills and Morgan White added 10 of her own.   Laura Saybouth had 29 assists.

The Angles finish their home schedule against Lynchburg on Saturday 10/21, 1:00pm and NC Wesleyan on Wednesday 10/25 at 6:30pm. 


Meredith sweeps Division II school St. Paul's College

Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith College Volleyball (9-12) is coming off a 3-0 win over Division II opponent St. Paul's College.  They completed the win in strong fashion with scores of 30-15, 30-14, 30-8.  Lauren Powers led the Angels with 15 kills and Sara Elliot had 6 service aces.    Laura Saybouth picked up 19 assists.

The team returns to action on Thursday October 12th as they travel to Roanoke College.  They return home to start a three game home stand on Tuesday October 17th to face Peace College at 6:30p.m.


Meredith downs North Carolina Wesleyan, 3-1
Rocky Mount, N.C. - After dropping game one by a 30-22 score, the Angels of Meredith College came back to sweep games two, three, and four for a 3-1 win over North Carolina Wesleyan. Meredith earns its first win of the season and is now 1-4, while Wesleyan drops to 0-5 on the young season. Game scores were 22-30, 30-23, 30-11, and 30-16.

After Wesleyan took game two by a 30-23 score, it was all Meredith in game three as the Angels jumped out to a 13-0 lead. They never looked back in sealing the 3-1 win.

Lauren Powers led Meredith with 17 kills. Laura Sayabouth turned in 22 assists and 11 service aces, while freshman Rocky Mount native Anna Taylor tallied six service aces of her own. Sara Elliot anchored the Angel defensive effort with 15 digs.

The Angels will travel to Greensboro this coming weekend for a four-game tournament, beginning with Friday's 2:00 p.m. match with Piedmont.
