About the Coaches

Head Coach - Paul Huch

Paul Huch enters his first season as Head Women’s Tennis Coach for Meredith College. He comes from Connecticut College where he completed eight seasons as the head men's and women's tennis coach. Huch has guided the Connecticut College women's tennis team to a 40-29 (.580) record over the past four seasons playing in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), the top Division III conference in the country featuring four teams in the top 17 including 2009 National Champion Williams College.

Under Huch's direction, the Camel women’s teams were nationally ranked in the ITA National Poll from 2004-07. In 2005, Huch led the Camel women to a 10-7 mark and was honored as the NESCAC Women's Tennis Coach of the Year. Huch directed the Camels to an 11-5 mark in 2004, matching the highest win total in the history of the program. The Camels climbed to #24 in the ITA Division III Poll. Huch's men's program finished 8-8 in 2007, doubling their win total from the previous season and posting the best record for the program since 2000.

Prior to his arrival in New London, Huch spent two years as the head women's tennis coach at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. Under his direction, the 1999 squad posted the best record in school history.

Huch is a graduate of the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.


Assistant Tennis Coach - Andrew Waldrop

Andrew Waldrop enters his first season as assistant tennis coach. Waldrop served on Head Coach Rachel Gale’s staff during the fall and will serve as the point of contact for the program while a new head coach is hired.

Waldrop grew up in the Cary, N.C. area and went to Green Hope High School where he played number one singles and doubles all four years. He served as team captain as a sophomore, junior, and senior and he helped Green Hope to four consecutive conference championships. While at Green Hope, Waldrop won three consecutive Conference Singles championships and he also helped as a student Assistant Coach to the girl’s tennis team.

After graduating from Green Hope in 2005, Waldrop accepted a tennis scholarship to Mars Hill College, located outside of Asheville, NC. While at Mars Hill, he had much success on and off of the court. Waldrop was awarded the Dean’s List every semester and he was also placed on the South Atlantic Conference Honor Roll in 2006 and 2007. Andrew also took an active role serving as President for the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. On the court, Waldrop contributed in both singles and doubles, even helping Mars Hill to the semifinals of their Conference Tournament.

At the end of his sophomore year, Waldrop decided to transfer to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While at UNC, Waldrop played for the Club Tennis Team. In 2008, he participated in the Club National Championships and UNC Club Tennis finished the year ranked as one of the top 25 club tennis teams in the country. Waldrop was also a vital member of the Carolina Sports Business Club. While in this club, he helped organize and orchestrate the first annual Tee Off For Tar Heels Benefit Golf Tournament. In May of this year, Waldrop graduated from UNC with a degree in Exercise and Sport Science with a concentration in Sport Administration.

Andrew started teaching tennis during the summers of high school. He has continued teaching ever since then and currently, he teaches tennis at Lochmere Swim and Tennis Club. Waldrop also works for a junior tennis website called mytennisnetwork.com.
