Meredith Soccer Takes Seven Positions and Three Special Awards on National Independent Team

Kansas City, Mo. - The All-Independent Women’s Soccer teams were selected by the women’s soccer coaches from the Association of Division III Independents member schools. Meredith College gained 7 members on the team with Meredith Cowart and Margot Childs being placed on the First Team. The Association of Division III Independents also named their special award winners from the season. Meredith College was well-decorated with Margot Childs selected as the defensive player of the year, Maggie Hart selected as the rookie of the year and Paul Smith selected as the coach of the year.

Defense Player of the Year– Margot Childs, Senior, Raleigh, NC, Meredith College
Childs, a senior defender from Raleigh, NC, who also was named to the AD3I first team last year, was the anchor of the defense and was named to the NSCAA All-South Region team.

Rookie of the Year – Maggie Hart, Freshman, Mooresville, NC, Meredith College
Hart, a freshman forward from Mooresville, NC, led the team with 21 goals and six assists.

Coach of the Year – Paul Smith, Meredith College
Smith led the Angels to a 17-4-1 record, the best in school history. The Angels advanced to the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship for the first time in school history.


Season Wrapup

The Meredith College (17-4-1) soccer team's 2006 season was their best in school history. The 17 wins earned by Meredith this year is also a new record. These wins helped them to earn their first ever bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer tournament. The season also included a 12 game win streak, 14 game non-losing streak, and 14 shutouts.

The Angels faced Washington & Lee University (17-1-2) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer tournament in Maryville, TN. The Angels hung tough throughout the game with a Generals team that has only allowed 2 goals all season. Meredith was down 0-1 at half time before Washington & Lee ended Meredith's season with 5 goals in the second half. It was the first time all season that the Angels had been shutout.

Meredith was named the number one seed in the Association of Division III Independents tournament in Poultney, Vermont. In the semi-finals, the Angels defeated Mitchell College 2-0. They were led by two goals from Nicole Boucher with Meredith Cowart providing the assist on both. Meredith College out shot Mitchell College 39-1. In the championship game, Green Mountain College defeated Meredith 2-1 but not without a fight. It was a 0-0 half time score until Green Mountain scored two goals to take the lead. The Angels put a score on the board by Erin Cooper to cut it to a 2-1 deficit. A hard fought effort fell short in the final minutes. Meredith College finished as the runner-up in the tournament. All tournament team members from Meredith included Nicole Boucher, Meredith Cowart, and Mary Grace Moon.

Highlights of the season included wins over Guilford College, the University of Dallas, and Mitchell College in the semi-finals of the Association of Division III Independents tournament. Leading goal scorers for the year were Maggie Hart (FR) 21, Kristy Knight (SO) 16, and Nicole Boucher (JR) 16.

Meredith graduates seniors Gardner Kirkland, Rebecca Thompson, Margot Childs, Adrienne Kralick and Mary-Grace Moon. The future is bright as the top three scorers remain for the 2007 season.


Meredith Completes Season

Maryville, TN - The Meredith College soccer team lost to Washington & Lee University 6-0 (17-1-2) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer regional held at Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee. The Angels (17-4-1) held the Generals to a 0-1 half time score. Meredith was out shot 20-2 on the cold and rainy evening under the lights. The Angels hung tough throughout the game with a Generals team that has only allowed 2 goals all season.

Meredith's loss brings the end to a season in which they gained their first NCAA tournament bid and best record in school history. The season also included a 12 game win streak, 14 game non-losing streak, and 14 shutouts. The Angels graduate five in their Senior class.

Soccer Gains NCAA Bid

Raleigh, N.C. – The Meredith College soccer team has gained a bid to the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship. The Angels (17-3-1) are set to face Washington and Lee (16-1-2) in the first round in Maryville, TN at 5pm on Saturday. This is the first appearance by the soccer team in the NCAA tournament. The 17 wins earned by Meredith this season is the most in school history.

Meredith is coming off a second place finish in the Association of Division III Independents tournament in Poultney, VT. Meredith had 14 shutouts and a 14 game non-losing streak during the season.

Maryville College will host Methodist University at 7:30 p.m.

Winners from Saturday’s action will play at 6:00 p.m.

The Maryville Regional winner will advance to sectional play November 17-19 at a site to be determined.

Soccer Team Falls 2-1 in Championship Game

Poultney, Vt. - The Meredith College soccer team lost to Green Mountain College (VT) (18-1) in the Association of Division III Independents Women's Soccer Championship Game on Sunday. The Angels (17-3-1) and Eagles were tied at half time with a 0-0 score. The Eagles then took a 2-0 lead until Meredith’s lone goal was scored by Erin Cooper with 9:59 left. Meredith out shot Green Mountain 14-6.

Meredith’s loss brings the end to a 12 game win streak and a 14 game non-losing streak. Meredith had 14 shutouts on the season with their last coming over Mitchell College on Saturday.

The Angels now wait to hear about a possible NCAA tournament bid.

Soccer Team Defeats Mitchell College, Moves to Championship Game

Poultney, Vt. - The Meredith College soccer team defeated Mitchell College (CT) 2-0. They move to the Association of Division III Independents Women's Soccer Championship Game on Sunday. The Angels were led by two goals by Nicole Boucher. Meredith Cowart provided the assist on both goals. Meredith College out shot Mitchell College 39-1.

Meredith faces #2 seed host Green Mountain College (VT) in the Championship Game at 1:30pm on Sunday.

Soccer Team Finishes Regular Season, Heads to Vermont

Raleigh, NC - Meredith College Soccer finished the regular season with a 7-0 victory at Salem College on Monday. With the victory, Meredith (16-2-1) completed their 10th straight win and 13th shutout of the year. The Angels beat Salem College with a balanced scoring attack with all seven goals scored by different players. Leading goal scorers for the year were Maggie Hart (FR) 21, Kristy Knight (SO) 16, and Nicole Boucher (JR) 15. The tough defense and goal keeping by Stephanie Wells has led the way for Meredith. Wells has only given up 12 goals in 19 games played and has 13 shutouts. Meredith has moved up to #6 in this weeks Division III NSCAA/adidas® South Regional Rankings. They are also currently #6 in the D3kicks South Regional Rankings.

Meredith College Coach Paul Smith is building this team to compete as a cohesive unit. Coach Smith said, "We have gotten tremendous play from all our players. The entire team has dedicated the season to putting the team first; having fun and making game winning plays." This shows as the team gets ready for post season play. "We hope to continue to play at a high level and to gain the privilege to play in the NCAA tournament."

Meredith takes on Mitchell College (ME) at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Poultney, VT in the Association of DIII Independents Women's Soccer Championship.


Meredith College Named Number One Seed

Raleigh, NC – The Meredith College soccer team has been named the number one seed for the Association of Division III Independents Women's Soccer Championship in Poultney, VT. The tournament will take place on Saturday, November 4 – Sunday, November 5 on the campus of Green Mountain College in Poultney, VT. Meredith (14-2-1) is coming off a 6-0 win over Ferrum College. Freshman Maggie Hart leads the team with 19 goals on the year. The Angels have now won 9 straight games and have 11 shutouts on the season. Meredith finishes up the season at home against Chowan College and away at Salem College.

Meredith College Soccer climbs in the Top 10 NSCAA/adidas® Regional Rankings

Raleigh, NC – The Meredith College Soccer (13-2-1) team has moved up to #7 in the Division III NSCAA/adidas® South Regional Rankings after their 11-0 win over NC Wesleyan on Saturday. Meredith entered the Division III NSCAA/adidas® South Regional Rankings last week at #8. The win over NC Wesleyan is Meredith’s 8th straight and their 10th shutout of the season. Freshman Maggie Hart added two goals in the game to increase her team high total to 18 on the year. Anna Buryk and Erin Cooper also scored two goals each. Meredith is currently ranked #5 in the D3Kicks poll and has been as high as 4th. The Angels now travel to Ferrum College on October 24th.


Meredith College Soccer enters the Top 10 NSCAA/adidas® Regional Rankings

Raleigh, NC – The Meredith College Soccer team has entered the Division III NSCAA/adidas® South Regional Rankings at #8.  This is the first time that Meredith has been ranked in the NSCAA/adidas® Regional Rankings.  Meredith is coming off of 6-0 win over Peace College and their 7th straight of the season.  Meredith is currently ranked #6 in the D3Kicks poll and have been as high as 4th.  The Angels now host the Meredith College Classic the weekend of October 21st and face NC Wesleyan and Trinity (DC). 


Hart honored as Association of Division III Independents women’s soccer Player of the Week

Kansas City, MO Meredith College freshman forward Maggie Hart (Mooresville, N.C.) is this week’s Association of Division III Independents women’s soccer Player of the Week. Hart scored the first and last goals in a 4-2 win over South Region No. 7 Guilford College. She also scored a pair of goals in a 6-0 win over cross-town rival Peace College. With her four goals on the week, she raised her season total to 16. Hart has helped lead the Angels to their seventh consecutive victory of the season. Meredith, ranked sixth in the South Region, improves to 12-2-1 on the season under coach Paul Smith.


Meredith shuts out Peace College
Raleigh, NC - Kristy Knight scored three goals and had one assist to lead Meredith College (12-2-1) to a 6-0 win over Peace College on Sunday. Maggie Hart added two of her own to increase her total to 16 on the season. Anna Buryk added a goal and an assist as well. These goals led the Angels to their 9th shut out of the season.

Meredith is ranked #4 in the D3Kicks South region poll and is looking to move up in the NSCAA/adidas® poll when it comes out later this week. The win pushed the Angels to their 7th straight win of the season. The next matches are at the Meredith College Classic the weekend of October 21st.

Meredith tops Guilford College in Key Battle
Greensboro, N.C. - Maggie Hart scored twice, including a goal with 37 seconds left, to help visiting Meredith to a 4-2 soccer win at Guilford Wednesday. The Angels' (11-2-1) sixth straight win marked their first over the Quakers (8-5-1) in five all-time meetings.

Meredith out shot the Quakers, 13-11, and got five saves in goal by Stephanie Wells. Zych made three saves for the Quakers.

Going into the match, Meredith was ranked 6th in the South while Guilford was 7th. This win is sure to strengthen Meredith's standings in the D3Kicks and NSCAA/adidas® rankings in the coming week.

Meredith hosts Peace College at 1 p.m. on Sunday October 15.

Boucher honored as Association of Division III Independents women's soccer Player of the Week
Kansas City, Mo. – Meredith College junior forward Nicole Boucher (Raleigh, N.C.) is this week's Association of Division III Independents women's soccer Player of the Week. Boucher scored both of Meredith's goals, including the game-winner, in a 2-0 victory over South Region No. 17 University of Dallas. Both goals came in the first 20 minutes of the contest. Boucher, who is coached by Paul Smith, has helped lead Meredith to their fifth consecutive shut out win of the season. With the key win, the South Region No. 7 Angels improve their record to 10-2-1 on the year.


Meredith Soccer defeats University of Dallas (TX), 2-0
Raleigh, NC - The Meredith College soccer team increased their record to 10-2-1 with a 2-0 win over the University of Dallas. The Angels entered the contest at #7 in the NCAA Division III South Region Rankings. They have now won five in a row and have also posted their 5th consecutive shutout. Nicole Boucher of Meredith scored the only two goals of the game within the first twenty minutes of the game. This would be the only goals the Angels would need to put the game away. Meredith GK Stephanie Wells had 3 saves and Dallas GK had 5. The Angels travel to Guilford College on Wednesday.


Meredith Soccer Gains Highest Ranking in School History, Faces University of Dallas (TX)
Raleigh, NC - The Meredith College soccer team (9-2-1) enters the top ten to become #7 in the NCAA Division III South Region Rankings according to D3Kicks. They have won four in a row and face a key match up this Saturday with the University of Dallas (TX), (6-4, #23 NCAA Division III South Region Rankings) to help determine a potential NCAA tournament bid. Freshman Maggie Hart leads the Angels ranked nationally at #9 Points per Game
and #12 Goals per Game. The Angels face Dallas on Saturday, October 7 at 1:00pm at the Meredith College soccer field in Raleigh.
