Monarchs Edge Out Avenging Angels 2-1
 
 
USA South Women's Soccer Semifinals - Nov. 6
Martinsville, Va. - The USA south Women's Soccer Tournament got underway as the #5 seed Methodist Monarchs and #1 seed Meredith Avenging Angels faced off at the Smith River Sports Complex. The Monarchs took the game 2-1 on a goal by Whitney Roberson with six and a half minutes remaining.

The first half was a scoreless, defensive battle with only five shots by both teams including three on goal by the Monarchs.

Methodist struck first in the second half at the 52:10 mark on a goal by Faye Charles flicked over the right shoulder of Meredith goalie Sarah Chadwick. Danielle Minichello provided the assist.

The Avenging Angels evened the score four and half minutes later on a goal by Carrie Talbert to the top center of the net assisted by Maggie Hart.

Methodist took the lead for the second time and for good with a goal from Roberson on a shot to the far post at the 84:29 mark.

Methodist will face #2 Christopher Newport on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the conference final.
