Soccer - Oct. 26
Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference released their player of the week awards. Alex Calvert was named the USA South Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the fourth time this year. Freshman Kimberly Williams took the USA South Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week honors. Meredith took two conference games over the weekend defeating Methodist and Greensboro on the road and propelled them into first place in the USA South.
Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Alex Calvert, Meredith - The Wilson, North Carolina junior midfielder totaled three goals and two assists in a 3-0 week for the Avenging Angels. In a 5-0 win over Ripon (Wisc.), Calvert scored the second goal of the match. In a 2-1 victory over USA South rival Methodist, Calvert tallied the game-winning goal in the 79th minute. Finally, in a 3-1 win over USA South foe Greensboro, Calvert assisted on Meredith's first two goals, and then scored one of her own in the 73rd minute.
Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Kimberly Williams, Meredith - The Red Oak, North Carolina freshman midfielder totaled one goal and three assists in a 3-0 week for the Avenging Angels. In a 5-0 win over Ripon (Wisc.), Williams assisted on the team's second and fourth goals of the match. In a 2-1 victory over USA South rival Methodist, Williams was held scoreless but did mange two shots on goal. Finally, in a 3-1 win over USA South foe Greensboro, Williams scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 61st minute then assisted on the team's final tally in the 73rd minute. |
