Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith soccer team opened conference play as Shenandoah came to town. The Avenging Angels defeated the Hornets in a close conference battle 4-3. Alex Calvert had a hat trick of three goals for the Avenging Angels.
Meredith (6-2-1) fell behind 2-0 quickly in the first half giving up a goal in the first 70 seconds and one 14 minutes in. Calvert got Meredith on the board twice in the second half scoring an assisted goal 24 minutes in and one off a corner kick from Kristy Knight at the 40 minute mark. The teams finished the half dead locked in a 2-2 tie.
Knight then gave the Avenging Angels their first lead on a goal assisted by Sarah Murray at the 53 minute mark. Calvert then added her third goal in the game off of a penalty kick at the 65 minute mark and gave Meredith the eventual game winner. Shenandoah added their third goal at the 79 minute mark, but it was not enough.
Meredith next returns to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. as the host Mary Baldwin.
