Volleyball Loses Five Set Heartbreaker

Fayetteville, N.C. - The Meredith volleyball team traveled to Methodist for a USA South Conference matchup. The Avenging Angels and Monarchs went to five sets and then some with Methodist winning 3-2.

The first set went to Methodist (10-3, 4-2 USA South) by a score of 25-18 after the Avenging Angels held a 5-2 lead. Set two saw a more aggressive Meredith (5-11, 1-5) team come out and take the set 25-17, holding as high as an 11 point lead. In set three, Meredith held an early 7-6 lead before the Monarchs took the set 25-16. Set number four was a see-saw battle with Meredith taking control at 13-all with eight straight points to take a 25-16 win. Set five was a very hard played match, going to extra points with Methodist winning 19-17.

Meredith was led by Cori Spade with 13 kills, three service aces, one solo block and one block assist. Mallory Booker had 12 kills and eight digs.

Meredith next hosts a USA South tri-match on Saturday as Shenandoah and Greensboro come to town. The first match begins at 12pm.
