Tennis - Sept. 20
Fayetteville, N.C. - The Meredith tennis team participated in the Methodist Invitational in perfect weather playing several matches in both singles and doubles.
The weekend was highlighted by Molly Parks and Mollie Musgrave winning the championship flight in the C doubles draw. Betty Edwards also came in 2nd place in the Championship C singles draw.
Mary Kate Watson was in the C flight and had some very long points in all of her matches. She pulled out a win placing her in 3rd place in the championship draw. Mary Kate and Zannah Webster played some tough doubles and ended up winning their back draw for 5th place.
Casey Collins lost in the finals of the back draw in singles and she played doubles with Ashley Pearsall. They won their 1st round match then lost the next two rounds with a great effort.
Alison Flanagan was voted Most Valuable Player of the tournament by her team. She played four tough singles matches in the A flight and partnered up with Kathryn Maples winning their back draw finals match.
Molly Parks was in the B flight and won her 1st match, lost her 2nd match then went on to win her back draw finals match. Her doubles partner, Mollie Musgrave, also won her back draw finals match.
“The girls played very hard! I congratulate them all for a job well done. Their coaches are very proud of them and are looking forward to playing in the ITA tournament next week in Virginia,” said Head Coach Rachel Gale.
