Cross Country - Aug. 26
Fayetteville, N.C. - Christopher Newport University, under the direction of first-year Head Coach George Seward, was picked in the preseason coaches' poll to defend its USA South Athletic Conference women's cross country title in 2009. Meredith was picked to finish third in the field of 10 teams.
Christopher Newport received nine of ten first place votes (81 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting. Shenandoah University finished second in the balloting with 73 points and the final first place vote while Meredith College placed third with 59 points. Rounding out the top-five were Mary Baldwin College and Greensboro College who collected 57 and 40 points, respectfully.
The Meredith's cross country season gets underway on Tuesday, September 1st as Avenging Angels host Peace College at 5 p.m. in a dual meet.
