Lexington, Va. - May 8 The Meredith tennis team won the school's first ever NCAA tournament game, defeating Gwynedd-Mercy 5-1. The Avenging Angels will next face host Washington & Lee on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the round of the final 32.
In doubles, Meredith and Gwynedd-Mercy were in a see-saw battle. Each team took an advantage throughout the match, with all three going past seven and two into tiebreakers. Meredith put on a comeback and prevailed with a 2-1 lead. The #2 doubles pair of Ashley Pearsall/Brooke Baird won 9-8 (8-6) and #3 of Caitlin Dillon/Molly Parks won 9-8 (7-3) to take the doubles victory.
In singles, Meredith took quick wins with #4 Ashley Pearsall (6-1, 6-1), #6 Molly Parks (6-0, 6-2) and #2 Brooke Baird (6-1, 6-2) to end the match.
