Softball Finishes Season With Split

The Meredith softball team welcomed Ferrum on Good Friday to close out the regular conference schedule. Senior outfielder Toni Tricarico was honored in between the games of the doubleheader. Meredith (13-17, 8-10 USA South) split the series with Ferrum (16-18, 8-10) winning game one 2-0 and losing game two 3-2.

Game 1: Meredith 2, Ferrum 0 - Arielle Stout threw a two-hit shutout, striking out 10 to give the game to the Avenging Angels. Val Sherrer hit a solo homerun in the second inning, providing the eventual game winner for Meredith. Becki Roebock knocked in Patricia Davis on a suicide squeeze sacrifice in the fifth inning.

Game 2: Ferrum 3, Meredith 2 - Ferrum scored two in the top of the fourth but Meredith scored two of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie it up. Tricarico walked to start the inning and a double by Patricia Davis put runners at second and third. Roebock then hit a double into the left field corner to score two runs. Ferrum was able to score the game winner in the top of the seventh and hold off a late rally from Meredith.

Meredith next heads to Burlington, N.C. for the USA South tournament on Friday April 17. The seeding will be announced once the final conference games are completed.
