Meredith Softball Splits at Averett

The Meredith softball team traveled to Averett for a conference doubleheader on Monday. The Avenging Angels split the series, winning game one 2-0 and losing game two 1-10.

Game 1: Meredith 2, Averett 0 - The game remained tied until the sixth inning when Kate Moye singled to score Olivia Izze. Meredith gained an insurance run in the seventh when Dana Higgins scored on a single by Izze. Arielle Stout struck out 14 Averett batters in the win.

Game 2: Averett 10, Meredith 1 - Averett scored three runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. The Cougars put one more up in the third and six more in the sixth. Meredith added their own run in the sixth with a run by Becki Roebock.

Meredith next hosts Peace on Wednesday in a Strikeout Cancer Pink Game at 3 p.m.
