Fayetteville, N.C. - Mar. 25 The Meredith softball team split with Methodist in a USA South Conference doubleheader. Methodist took the first game 2-1 and Meredith (10-8, 5-1 USA South) answered with a 4-0 shut out.
Game 1: Methodist 2, Meredith 1 - The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Methodist (9-17, 2-4) scored two runs. The Avenging Angels put together a seventh inning rally that fell just short, with Meredith getting one run. Meredith's Jordan Smith pitched a complete game and only gave up five hits, striking out seven.
Game 2: Meredith 4, Methodist 0 - The second game saw Meredith score two runs in the top of the second and never lose the lead the rest of the game. Arielle Stout walked to start the inning and was followed by a Val Sherrer single. Stout and Sherer both advanced to third and second on a wild pitch. Patricia Davis then singled, scoring Stout. Sherrer scored the second run when Davis stole second causing an overthrow from the catcher. The Avenging Angels produced insurance runs in the top of the fourth when Davis hit a two-run home run over the left-center field fence. Stout pitched a complete game, striking out 10 and only giving up four hits.
Meredith next travels to Shenandoah and Christopher Newport over the weekend. |
