The USA South Athletic Conference released their softball player of the week awards. Becki Roebock was named the USA South Softball Player of the Week and Jordan Smith was named USA South Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week. Meredith is coming off of a 4-0 conference start on the season with potent offensive from Roebock and strong pitching from Smith.
Softball Player of the Week
Becki Roebock, Meredith - The sophomore first baseman from Knightdale, North Carolina (Broughton High School) led the Avenging Angels to a 4-0 record last week, all versus USA South competition, by hitting .666 (8-for-12) with six RBI, four runs scored, four doubles, two walks, two sacrifice hits and one stolen base. In a doubleheader sweep of N.C. Wesleyan, Roebock was a combined 4-for-6 with two RBI, two runs scored, two doubles, two sacrifice hits and one walk. In a doubleheader sweep of Mary Baldwin, Roebock was a combined 4-for-6 with four RBI, two runs scored, two doubles, one stolen base and one walk.
Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
Jordan Smith, Meredith - The freshman from Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina (Fuquay-Varina High School) earned a 4-0 record last week, all versus USA South competition, for the Avenging Angels. In 19.1 innings pitched, Smith allowed four runs on eight hits with six walks and 30 strikeouts. In a 2-1, game-one, win over N.C. Wesleyan, Smith tossed a complete game allowing one run on four hits with nine strikeouts. In the second game of the doubleheader with N.C. Wesleyan, an 8-5 Meredith victory, Smith came on in relief to pitch the final 3.1 innings, earning the win by allowing two runs on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts. In a 9-0, five-inning game one, victory over Mary Baldwin, Smith tossed her first career no-hitter as she allowed just two walks with 12 strikeouts. Smith then started the final game of the doubleheader, a 10-2 Meredith victory, and went four innings, allowing one run on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts to earn the win.
