Raleigh, N.C. - Feb. 8 The Meredith basketball team welcomed Christopher Newport to town on Sunday for the PinkZone game to benefit the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. The Captains won the game 78-55.
The Avenging Angels (5-17, 1-14 USA South) jumped out quick on the Captains (15-5, 10-3) leading by as many as 11 on a layup by Brittany Cornelius. Christopher Newport fought back and held a 45-32 halftime advantage.
Meredith was led by Cornelius with 21 points and five rebounds. Cornelius was also honored before the game with a ball to commemorate her 1,000 career point milestone last week. Megan Rahn and Kristin Stewart both added nine points. Courtney Kreber was the leading rebounder with six.
“WBCA Pinkzone Game” - Meredith is hosted their second annual PinkZone game today as they played Christopher Newport. The PinkZone game will encompassed several fund raisers in support of the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. The Meredith College athletics department sold “Avenging Angels” t-shirts, hosted a raffle and collected donations with all proceeds going to the fund. There were also organizations in attendance with educational materials.
Meredith next host Methodist on Thursday at 7 p.m.
