Meredith Gains First Conference Win
 
 
Rocky Mount, N.C. - Feb. 4
The Meredith basketball team gained their first USA South Athletic Conference win on the season, defeating N.C. Wesleyan 67-61. Brittany Cornelius led the way for Meredith with a double-double of 31 points and 13 rebounds. Cornelius moves into sixth on the all time Meredith scoring list passing Ruth Stephenson (1,008) with 1,032.

Meredith took the lead in the first half on a lay up by Megan Rahn at the 13 minute mark. N.C. Wesleyan led by as many as 10 throughout the first half. Cornelius made a layup at the end of the half to cut the score to a three point deficit of 33-30. Cornelius had 13 first half points and six rebounds to lead Meredith.

Meredith took the second half lead on a layup by Kristin Stewart with 16 minutes remaining. The lead continued to bounce back and forth until Megan Rahn made a lay up with 1:16 remaining. The Avenging Angels would not relinquish the lead the rest of the game and took the first conference victory on the year.

Meredith next returns to action on Sunday as they host Christopher Newport at 2 p.m. in the PinkZone game to benefit the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
