Artist Statement

Graphic Design is my perfect calling; it has helped me figure out who I am as a person and what I love in life. As a student, I always wanted to organize visual projects and collaborate with others, and as I grew as a student and person, I realized that graphic design was a great way to channel these strengths. I have always been creative, and I am an extremely extroverted person; I love interacting with people and trying to understand them. Figuring out creative solutions to visual communication problems through the means of human interaction is what I am good at. The design communication field is a perfect area for me.

I also consider myself to be an artist, and every piece of design work that I create I view as an artistic composition. I am drawn to the design element line, and I use this element throughout my work. I enjoy looking to the past for inspiration and going for a vintage feel, though I am always experimenting and changing my look. A theme I focus on in my art and design work is “defiance”; anything that goes against the norm has always fascinated me, and I love for my work to be bold, somewhat shocking to people, and maybe a little bit crazy. I strive to balance my rebel instinct with a desire to create work that is beautiful and ascetically pleasing. Lastly, I just love letters, I think they are so beautiful and I could look at them and work with them all day.
