Artist Statement

I am a graphic designer because I love to create. My passion for graphic design began at an early age when my family got their first computer. I loved combining different visual elements to create the perfect greeting cards, calendars, and flyers. This hobby continued throughout my childhood, which brought me to the field of graphic design today. My current work grows out of my other passions in life: family, friends, faith, music, and sports. I want my work to communicate who I am as an individual and be as honest as possible.

The thing I like the most about graphic design is its immediacy. It allows me to have absolute control over my decisions. There are no limitations when it comes to graphic design. I can use tools such as a scanner, camera, and programs such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop to get the exact look I want to communicate. As a result, I’m able to put my all into my artwork. My body of work includes mostly graphic design work with a mixture of photography and digital imaging. I believe photography is a relevant supplement to graphic design, because often as a designer I work with both words and images. My body of work is unified by textures, which bring a different kind of richness. I also aim to educate through my designs. I hope that my designs will demand attention and allow the viewer to learn something they may not have previously known.
