Artist Statement My artwork describes my past, present, and future. I show two worlds that have joined together, my Indian heritage and my American present. My artworks express my life transformation from past to present. I foresee a future filled with both love and pain. I fear that I am lossing touch with my inner child. I want to hold onto my Bengali family history. I often feel torn between two worlds. I struggle to balance my cultural past with my present life. I work with oil paint, clay, and wood. These three media enable me to tell stories of my life. By working with various media I am able to understand my own life transformation and portray aspects of myself. I use smooth textures to represent my calm personality. The bright colors represent my feelings toward my past culture while the low intensity colors in my work represent my future.
My artwork has the ability to speak to people. I want the large scale of my artwork to offer people a mirror reflection as if they are looking at themselves. I hope People will be able to remember their own memories through my artworks. I hope many people can relate to my work; we all go through life transformations when we try to reconcile our past, present, and future. |
