International

Secondary School Record
An official copy of the secondary school record, complete with a listing of courses taken, grades obtained, credit received and rank in class, is required. These records should also include the results of any national or external examinations taken by the student. If the original transcripts are not provided in English, a certified translation into English is required.

General expectations: Meredith uses an unweighted grading scale. The College expects applicants to have a strong record in their academic subjects to receive consideration for admissions. Speical attention is given to the academic rigor of your high school program. An applicant’s program of study should include the following units in grades 9-12:

  • English – 4
  • Mathematics – 3
  • Science – 3
  • History/Social Science – 3
  • Foreign Language – 2
  • Academic Elective – 1

English Language Proficiency
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency of the English language by submitting official test scores. Students may choose to take either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the test of the English Language Testing System (IELTS). The minimum scores accepted for the TOEFL are 173 on the computer-based test, 500 on the paper-based test or 61 on the internet based test. The minimum accepted score on the IELTS is a 6. All test scores should be dated within the last 18 months.

If the student’s native language or primary language of instruction is English, students are required to take the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT).  In recent years, the middle 50 percent of enrolling students have scores between 970 and 1170 (Critical Reading + Math only) on the SAT and between 19-24 on the ACT.

Recommendations
An applicant should provide recommendations from a school official and a teacher who has taught her in an academic subject in one of the last two years of study.

Post-Secondary School Record(s)
Any student with university-level work from a foreign university must provide a present course-by-course evaluation of her academic documents compiled by an approved international credential evaluation service. Additionally, certified translations of all foreign university transcripts are required. The two services Meredith recommends are World Education Services (WES), www.wes.org; or Education Evaluators International (EEI), www.educei.com. Students wishing to use other evaluation services should first check with the Office of Admissions to see if these evaluations will be accepted.
