Foreign Language Placement

Meredith College believes that a well-educated woman should be a competent communicator in at least one foreign language. The general education curriculum requires language study through the third semester (205) level. We encourage students to build on the knowledge they’ve begun in high school by taking courses early in the college career. Students who studied French or Spanish, will take an assessment during Advising & Registration or orientation that will help us place students in the most appropriate level. The results of the assessment might also indicate that a student has already met the general education requirement in foreign language. Students who studied a language other than Spanish or French and would like to continue in that language should consult Dr. Kevin Hunt, Department Head, Foreign Languages and Literatures at (919) 760-8422 or kevinh@meredith.edu
