Think Strong: Focus on Critical Thinking / Home

Student Government Association members meeting in Cate Student Center

Think Strong (previously PRISM) focuses on equipping you with the intellectual skills and traits that encourage critical thinking and active engagement in the learning process. Why? Because these skills are essential to your success in college — and set you up to excel as a life-long learner, professional and leader.

What is critical thinking?
Critical thinking is a purposeful, self-directed process in which you take charge of knowledge, use reason to propel your scholarship and solve problems, and integrate these skills in your intellectual endeavors and actions. Through Think Strong, you analyze your own thinking and decision making processes so that you learn to make more informed and reasoned decisions. Over time, you become more reflective and even more creative from understanding your patterns of thinking.

The Think Strong experience seeks to improve students’ critical thinking skills throughout their four years at Meredith. First-year students participate in a discipline-specific seminar to develop and strengthen their critical thinking skills. Beyond the first year, students apply these skills to courses and experiences that provide multiple opportunities for reflection, intellectual engagement and action.
