Food and Nutrition / Meredith College Organic Garden
Location: Behind Weatherspoon Gym, below parking lot
Visiting and Volunteering: The garden is open to all members of the Meredith community for visiting and service all day, year round. Group work times are scheduled each week in which garden staff will lead service activities such as planting, mulching, watering, weeding, and general maintenance. Interpretive tours are also conducted.
Farm Stand Schedule: Summer Tuesdays 10-12 until mid-August
What is the big barn-like structure at the entrance of the garden? There is a large shed currently under construction to the right hand side of the entrance of the garden. This building will serve as a composting shed and general garden storage area. Three of the four bays will be used for a large scale composting operation. Plant waste from the garden, the Food & Nutrition program food lab's, and the dining hall will be some of the sources of material. With the help of a grant from O2 Compost Company, the composting operation is scheduled to be up and running in July.
What's growing in the garden now? Right now you will find: all types of summer veggies and flowers.
Where is the edible landscape? The trees, bushes, and vines that made up the edible landscape previously in front of Ledford have been moved to the new garden location. These plants are the start of what will eventually be a more elaborate edible landscape surrounding the formal garden.
