Sociology / Internships

All sociology majors are required to complete a 90-150 hour internship, which places them in the field for a hands-on, professional experience related to their area of study. Students are placed with community or government agencies, where they have the opportunity apply sociological theories and methods to real world social issues.

Recent internship placements include:

  • Interact
  • Urban Ministries of Wake County
  • Planned Parenthood
  • Habitat for Humanity of Wake County
  • Haven House Services

After completing field work, students write a paper incorporating their field experiences and major theories in the field of sociology. Each student presents content from her final paper to the department faculty and other students at the end of the semester.
