Dance / Student Resources
The Meredith College dance program enhances students’ educational experiences in forming, performing and producing dance through the following avenues:
DanceWorks, the dance program’s spring concert, is open to all Meredith students. Student choreographers hold auditions, rehearse twice weekly and meet with a faculty advisor on a regular basis. Faculty and guest artists create work in repertory classes that are open to all Meredith students.
Meredith Dance Theatre is a modern-based student company that performs faculty, guest artist and student work in a main-stage concert each fall, at campus and community events, and at the American College Dance Festival each spring. Recent guest artists include Talani Torres, Renay Aumiller, and Lindsey Kelly. Auditions are held each fall and spring.
Meredith Jazz and Tap Company, formed in spring 2006, is a student organization that promotes jazz and tap performance. Involvement is by audition. Performance venues include a January show, DanceWorks and other campus events.
Chapel Dancers is a student-led group of performers who create work for several chapel events per year.
Creative Arts Touring Company is a course that provides an interdisciplinary experience for arts education licensure students, including dance, theatre, art and music through the creation and performance of integrative arts lecture–demonstrations for public school students.
Nu Delta Alpha, a dance honor society that recognizes students and professionals for high achievement in dance, is designed for dance education students, dance educators and professional dancers to express their devotion to the art form by sharing, recognizing, and promoting dance education within schools and communities. Meredith’s chapter was chartered in 2005.
