Criminology / Internships

All criminology majors are required to complete a 90-150 hour internship, which places them in the field for a hands-on, professional experience related to their area of study. Students are placed with law enforcement, community, or government agencies, where they have the opportunity apply criminological theories and methods to real world social issues.

Recent internship placements include:

  • NC Department of Correction
  • State Bureau of Investigation
  • Raleigh Police Department
  • Raleigh/Wake City-County Bureau of Identification

After completing field work, students write a paper incorporating their field experiences and major theories in the field of criminology. Each student presents content from her final paper to the department faculty and other students at the end of the semester.
