Skills:

In WORD and in ONE ADDITIONAL application*, the student will :

1. start the computer, open the application of interest, create a document with the application; save the document as a file, and print the document;
2. locate and open the document at a later time;
3. edit the file.
   The student will also demonstrate that she can
4. send, receive, file, and print E-mail, and
5. conduct internet based research.
   * Other application refers to any software product relevant to the course of study. Examples include: a spreadsheet, a graphics presentation package, a particular database, a mathematical graphing program, etc.

Directions for student:

1. Students scoring a 0 are expected to work to improve their skill in that particular category until they can successfully demonstrate competency in the skill. The general education requirement is not met until all skill areas are met satisfactorily. A total score of 8 is required for submission
2. When competency in all skills area has been successfully demonstrated,submit the completed matrix (ratings, instructor’s initials, student signature) to the Office of the Registrar, Johnson Hall.
3. Keep a copy of the form for your own records.

** The competency score represents the following. The definitions of expectations are left to the individual instructor, but it is assumed they will be those standard for competent practice in the particular field of study.
1 = Demonstrates competency / Meets expectations
0 = Does not demonstrate competency / Needs modification

Transfer students
All students, including transfer students, should be able to satisfy the completion of this requirement in their normal courses of study. However, transfer students may request an interview and a skills assessment check with our Computer Applications Specialist located in SMB 251, 760-8129, E-mail: watkinsk@meredith.edu.
