About NSSE at Meredith
Meredith College has chosen to participate in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) for eight consecutive years because it examines effective educational practices and reflects how involved students are in experiences that lead to student learning and personal development. Based on the results, Meredith claims a place among the “highly engaging institutions.”
NSSE identifies five areas of effective educational practice and provides benchmark scores that allow the College to view Meredith students’ mean scores in relation to those of students in the national sample. In 2007 – as in all prior years of participation – Meredith’s mean benchmark scores exceeded the top 50% of scores of the national sample. Indeed, in 2007, mean benchmarks of Meredith’s first-year students were at or in the top 10% nationally in all five areas; seniors’ average scores also placed along with the top 10% in all but one area.
The benchmark areas are as follows:
- Level of Academic Challenge (LAC)
- Active and Collaborative Learning (ACL)
- Student-Faculty Interaction (SFI)
- Enriching Educational Experiences (EEE)
- Supportive Campus Environment (SCE)
